Call Committee Recommendation to Council
By Pastor Dave Sonnenberg
At its most recent meeting, the call committee voted
unanimously to recommend a candidate to our Church Council for their
endorsement. The council has called a special meeting for Wednesday, May 14 to
meet with this candidate and to take the next step in the call process.
Although most of their work is behind the scenes, I want to
tell you what a wonderful Call Committee we have. They have been very faithful
and enthusiastic throughout this process as we have searched for an Associate
Pastor (who has strong gifts in youth and family ministry). This week, I wanted
to provide a simple summary of how the call process works.
1) After all their preparatory work (interviews, etc), the
call committee will recommend one candidate to council, a person they believe
will do a good job in this setting and will be a good team player.
2) Church Council meets the candidate and must endorse him
or her for the process to move forward. If endorsed, a meeting of the
congregation is set (usually 2-3 weeks later) and announced on two consecutive
Sundays.
3) The congregation meets the candidate, usually hears them preach, and then
votes at a congregational meeting on whether to call the pastor to serve.
4) If the vote at the congregation meeting is positive, the candidate is
extended a call (or invitation) to serve as our Associate Pastor. They obviously
must then decide whether to sign and agree to come and serve!
