Day-By-Day Updates (scroll down for more photos and the Building Committee's monthly update)
Friday, April 11, 2008: The walls are forming around the new sanctuary while work continues on the roof with electrical conduit.
Friday, April 4, 2008: Through the drizzle and rain at the end of this week we can see the walls forming up around our new sanctuary space. Openings are visible on the new building (facing Trailer #1) where some of our new stained glass windows will be placed. The steel beams are in place awaiting the concrete slabs for the office floor space.
Friday, April 18, 2008: Work continues with electrical conduit, the skylight opening in the top center of the roof has been cut. One stairway to the second floor is in place and has the cement stairs poured. Next week the concrete slabs for the second floor should arrive and be put into place.
April Building Committee Update: Building Bandwagon 2
Last month the “Building Bandwagon” idea was introduced as a way of expressing the excitement surrounding our new building. I am happy to report that there is tangible evidence that the GS congregation is climbing aboard the Building Bandwagon. Examples of the excitement expressed by the congregation are given at the end of this article. But first, let’s review the March building progress and the milestones scheduled for April.
March Progress
• The sanctuary and lobby/narthex/kitchen concrete floors were poured.
• The wooden octagon sanctuary arrived, arches were erected, and roof planking
was installed and tarpapered.
• Firewall between existing building and new construction erected.
• First floor lobby/narthex/kitchen concrete block walls erected and sanctuary
concrete block walls started.
• Steel beams to support 2nd level administrative area installed.
• Storm water pipes for new sanctuary and lower level entrance installed.
• Heat & AC duct work started in basement level.
• New bathrooms completed.
April Schedule
• Sanctuary concrete block walls will be completed.
• Sanctuary roof – electrical conduit, wires and boxes to be installed; roof
will be insulated and shingled.
• Precast planking for 2nd level administrative area will be installed.
• Basement duct work will be completed.
• Concrete block stair wells will be completed and installation of stairs will
begin.
Recognition and Thank You
As a way of recognizing and thanking the congregation for their support of our
building program, the front row seats on the Building Bandwagon for April are
reserved for:
• The choir and particularly Don Kress for highlighting the opening of our new
bathrooms on March 16 (Palm Sunday).
• Pastor Dave for his “Continued Progress on New Ministry Facilities” article in
Volume 1, Issue 1 of his pastoral newsletter. Pastor Dave describes the
excitement of seeing our new sanctuary going up as he was pumping gas at the
Walnut Hill Exxon station. (A good diversion from our high gasoline prices!)
• Mark Welshinger, who expressed thanks and excitement on Easter Sunday for the
“Continued Progress on New Ministry Facilities” article and the entire building
project.
• Vera Mae and Art Schultz for making an Easter dedication in honor of the
Building Committee. This dedication was a most pleasant surprise to me because
the Schultz and Kessler families happened to join GS on the same Sunday in 1969.
You are encouraged to take a careful look at the new construction before or after worship each Sunday. The locations of the new entrance, the stairwells, the elevator, the kitchen food pass thru, the sacristy doorway, and the small stained-glass windows are all visible. Our “Growing in Ministry, Building to Serve” and “Building on Faith” campaigns are bearing fruit!
