Good Shepherd Lutheran Church

Building Committee Update

April 2007

Building Committee Update Since our last Quarterly Report to the congregation (December 2006), our building project has proceeded from broad outlines, to the start of the approval/permitting process, toward specification of the many details that will provide a new church home that supports our growing ministry. A few highlights of the last three months (some already reported in the Shepherd’s Link) are: unanimous approval of our site plan by The City of Gaithersburg Planning Commission, a building committee decision to use a gravity drain sewage system (more expensive now, but less maintenance and problems in the future), choice of a stained glass window studio, solicitation of proposals from sound and projection providers, joint design of organ facilities by organ mover and Total Construction, more planning on the kitchen layout, and much thought on the phasing of demolition and construction to minimize the disruption of GS ministry.

Although the basic design of our building project is fixed (after much thought and many modifications), we still need help from the congregation to add the finishing touches that will make our facility first-class. In particular, help is needed in these four areas: final kitchen layout, spiritual and artistic design of new stained glass windows (in cooperation with stained glass window studio), new sanctuary furnishings, and building security system. If you have a particular expertise and/or interest in any of these areas, please contact me ASAP (301-963-5910).

The proposed July start date is just 3 months (or 13 weeks, or 91 days, or 2184 hours) away!

Ernie Kessler, Building Committee Chairman 301-963-5910 or bekessler@verizon.net
