'Just Come!' Disaster Recovery Trips
October 2006 - Gulfport, MS
Our second rebuilding trip to the Gulf Coast took place in mid-October 2006. A hard working team of 7 members and friends of Good Shepherd and St. Luke's (Derwood) were assigned to prime and paint inside a flooded family's house in Gulfport, MS. Following behind work done by other mission teams and the homeowner, our team saw first the need to finish drywall joints and blemishes by taping, mudding, and sanding before priming, and also to remove the floor tiles. After one room was primed, the wife was so ecstatic she screamed for joy. On our teams' final day, she beamed at seeing the the immense progress made in just five days. Even though employed, her husband has been working on their house ever since the disaster and making good but slow progress. Now she feels she can hang on in their FEMA trailer a little longer. She planned to plant a flower given by our team in a spot beside the house. We pray they are able to move back "home" by Thanksgiving.
Take a look at photos of our Good Shepherd Servants in action.
