So you sing in Chancel Choir ...
More details than you probably ever wanted to know to make your
first few Sundays with our joyful group easier and stress-free.
Rehearsal: Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. sharp! Usually runs an hour and a half.
Sunday Morning Call: Warm-up is 20 minutes before worship in the Music Hall -- 8:10 a.m., 9:40 a.m., 10:55 a.m. -- robed and ready. Call for special performances will be set by Director of Music Peter Schmidt.
Robes: Assigned by height from #1 shortest to #44 longest. Stole is worn with its burgundy side out. (Questions, please see Penny Risen.)
Music: Burgundy folder is used at worship with hymnal. Store your current sheet music or scores in paper folder in the numbered slot above your robe. Please help our librarian by turning in music ASAP after it's performed.
Processional: Enter from narthex two by two -- basses, tenors, altos, sopranos. Please bow together to the altar at center aisle, then turn and be seated in the loft. Overflow singers can sit in front pew and join section for anthem.
Communion: Choir leaves loft after Words of Institution and walks down the organ-side aisle to line up for distribution. Singers may join a family member at his or her seat, then return to choir loft after Communion.
Recessional: Choir exits when 2nd verse of closing hymn begins, again turning two by two down the center aisle. (Cross exits first, however.) We usually remain in narthex to finish hymn and to exchange the Peace.
Early exits: Singers who must leave worship after anthem can exit through the sacristy door near loft, normally before Gospel is read or after Offering.
Sitting with children: A singer who needs to sit with a young child can do so in front pew until anthem; do not process or recess.
Questions: Call the Music Line -- 301-869-1780 x117 -- for latest recording about music schedule or to leave a message if you won't be able to sing that Sunday; or email Director of Music, Peter Schmidt; or Worship & Music Committee Chair, Penny Risen.
