ABOUT THE ARTISTS

~ STEPHEN JOHNSTON, Clarinet, is Anna Lee Van Buren Professor of Clarinet in the Conservatory of Shenandoah University, and was a member of the wind faculties of Montgomery College and the University of Maryland. He performed as soloist with the U.S. Air Force Band, Evansville Philharmonic, Iowa Quartet in addition to groups in the Washington area and abroad. Dr. Johnston’s articles on clarinet performance, history and literature appear in numerous music publications.

~ SUE MARSTON BOYD, Piano, is Professor of Music at SU, where she teaches piano, harpsichord, chamber music and accompanying. In addition to performances abroad and throughout the United States, Dr. Boyd appeared at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the German Embassy. She was featured as pianist with Elizabeth Schwarzkopf, Ned Rorem and, Kathleen Battle.

~ CLYDE SHAW, Cello, is Associate Professor at SU. He holds degrees from Stetson University and the State University of New York at Binghamton. He is a founding member of the Audubon String Quartet, performing with the group worldwide for 30 years. In addition to appearing in concerts at home and abroad, he toured for the U.S. Department of State and performed at the White House.

 

~ DORIS LEDERER, Viola, is Associate Professor of Music at SU. She is a graduate of Curtis Institute and studied with Georges Janzer at Indiana University. She toured with Music from Marlboro and appeared as soloist with numerous U.S. orchestras. Part of Audubon String Quartet, she performed worldwide and is on CD: RCA; Orion; Opus One labels.
