July 2004 - Mid-Year Health Ministry Update

It is hard to believe that the first 6 months of 2004 are already behind us!  The Health Ministry Committee would like to review what we have done during the first half of the year and what we plan for the second half!

First aid kits have been placed in several locations around the church.

The pastors, office staff, and nursery personnel have received instruction and certification in CPR by the American Heart Association.

Discussion of health care and social issues has been offered during the Sunday adult forums.

Health information is offered on our bulletin board and is summarized in our monthly Hornblower article and on the church website.

Monthly blood pressure checks continue on the first Sunday of the month in the lobby.

Looking ahead:

Saturday, September 18, 2004 – Second annual blood drive in conjunction with the American Red Cross.  Look for more information and an opportunity to sign-up as a donor soon!  YOU CAN DONATE BLOOD BY JULY 23, 2004, AND STILL BE ELIGIBLE TO DONATE IN THE GOOD SHEPHERD DRIVE!

Sunday, November 14, 2004 – Proposed date for a flu shot clinic. The committee is reviewing the feasibility of offering a flu shot clinic in conjunction with a community healthcare organization. Approximate cost would be $20 per injection and Medicare Part B holders could have their claims filed on that date. We need 50 interested individuals to sponsor a clinic.  If you are interested in receiving your injection at church, please sign up on our bulletin board (located outside Laura Albanese’s office). There is a possibility that the pneumonia vaccine will be offered as well for those that are eligible.  Look for updates in the Hornblower/Sunday bulletins as we gather additional information.

Sunday Adult Forum Speakers – We are at work scheduling speakers for the fall. If you have expertise in a health/social issue and would like to share it with others, please contact us. Many of our fine presentations have been provided by our own membership!

Contact us if you have any ideas regarding how you would like this ministry to serve you!  We also welcome you to attend one of our meetings.  For more information, contact bmengedoht@earthlink.net or lucijeanne@juno.com.
