Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Today's Frontline Devotion April 3, 2008 JOURNEY |
A daily |
Frontline Devotion for Thursday April 3, 2008 by Pastor
Dave Sonnenberg
Reprinted from April 20, 2004
When I travel to my parents house (Philadelphia area), I choose not to travel the most direct route (through Baltimore) . Instead, I travel north, up I-270 through Frederick, on route 15 past Gettysburg and eventually hit the PA turnpike near my previous church in Camp Hill, PA. The turnpike takes me 80 miles east to my parents’ house. Bear with me!
I choose to go this route because I feel like I know every stretch of this route. I have traveled these roads so many times that I feel like I can see every turn before it happens. I feel like I can spot billboards before they even come into sight. I know the mile markers and the rest stops and where to get gasoline. But, as much as I say I know every stretch of this journey, I am continually amazed at how I only know part of the journey. I sometimes notice how things change (new houses, new signs, things torn down, and things I simply never noticed) on that journey and how things are never static.
Our life journey is like that. As much as we think we know ourselves, there are countless reminders that our journey is filled with surprises, changes, and new insights. There are many instances where the journey is turning out differently than expected. Still, I am thankful this day that God knows every square inch and every second our our life journey. He knows what lies around the corner for us and promises to be with us- affirming us at times, nudging us at times, challenging us to change at times, and showering us with extravagant love.
Life’s journey is not easy. But, I rest with a greater sense of peace knowing that Christ walks with us to lead us in his direction. Amen
