MIRRORS

A daily
Spiritual
Growth Opportunity

Frontline Devotion for Thursday, February 28, 2008 by Pastor Dave Sonnenberg

Reprinted from March 25, 2003

I had to go to Washington DC for a meeting today. Whenever I have a meeting downtown, I ride the Metro (our public transportation). The interesting thing is that I live about 1 mile away from the metro parking lot and I still cant' get it into my thick head that it is almost impossible to find a parking spot there- yet I always try. In the end, I end up parking about half a mile away, across route 355 in King Farm. . .I should just walk.

Today, I finished walking back to the car and discovered that someone had crushed my side mirror. Of course- no note, just the corpse of my mirror. I was in a good mood. It's a beautiful day. There are bigger concerns in the world than my side mirror. Nevertheless, as I drove home I recognized how much I rely on that mirror. I became keenly aware of how often I needed it and couldn't see. That mirror provides me with sight that I absolutely need. That mirror helps me to see things I can't see on my own.

As Christians on this journey of life, we need to be mirrors for one another. We need to help broaden each other's perspective for we simply can't see all the angles. In this post-modern world, we need to see ourselves as on a continual learning curve. On this journey, we need the spiritual input of many- who mirror for us things we can't see and help us to look at ourselves as well. When you help another grow in the spiritual life, you are offering sight and you are helping to bless another.
