Frontline Devotion for Thursday February 21, 2008 by

I will leave in a few minutes to bless someone's home. They recently moved in and have asked me to come and pray with them. If you've never experienced such a ritual, it is a neat experience. Basically, you process from room to room with invited guests. In each room, you read a passage of scripture and offer a prayer. You cover the whole house-the kitchen, the study, the living room, etc. In a nutshell, you are invoking the name of God and asking God to surround this place with his presence and guidance. The blessing is especially asking for God to lead and guide those who live there. . .It is a powerful reminder of our need for God.
As I think about this ritual, I think about how important it is for us to remember that wherever we go, we are called to be a blessing to this world. Our homes and dwellings we can decorate according to our own tastes. The world we must decorate with our witness according to our own God-given uniqueness. As I think about worship, I think that each week is an opportunity to bless others, who in turn go into the world to be a blessing to others. Do the people you work with need your "blessedness"? Do you neighbors need your "blessedness"? I believe they do.
May the Lord grant you his blessings in your unique context. May he bless your homes and may he bless you in your daily travels.
