Frontline Devotion for Friday, March 16, 2007 by By Mike Martine
This is one of those truly mysterious passages in the Bible. I’m not sure anyone completely knows what to make of it. What comes across, however, is that with God and faith almost nothing is impossible.
Back in Mark 6, the incredible power of God in Christ is referred to with the words that even those who simply touched “the fringe of his cloak” were healed by Jesus.
The fringe of his cloak - just a brush with God.
As mysterious as this passage of the healing of the boy is, mystery still touches us in our modern life. One thing that has always amazed me in Christian life is when someone says, “one time you did this…” or “one time you said…” or “one time you where there…and it meant so much, made me feel so much better…”
Often when they bring this sort of thing up, it is years later.
And I don’t even remember it.
As Christians, we live and operate in the Spirit. The Spirit, when we reach out to one another, is present. The Spirit brings God to others through our actions…even when we don’t even realize it.
In other words, when we commit to act in God, God acts through us. And without our even realizing, we can provide others with a “brush with God.”
Commit yourself to act with and for God. Seek justice, love mercy, show love. You will become the fringe of Christ’s cloak, and healing will be in your wings.
