Bigger is not necessarily better

A daily

Growth Opportunity

Frontline Devotion for Sunday, March 4, 2007 by Pastor Dave Sonnenberg

Mark 4:21-34

We are a culture obsessed with big and grand. We glorify the celebrity and those with great wealth. Big personalities get the press. Magazines and TV shows give us pictures of the fanciest homes and the extravagant lifestyle. My 27 inch TV, which seemed pretty big when I got it a few years ago, looks puny anymore when compared to these large Plasma deals anymore. Bigger is better says our culture in countless instances.

Into this culture, the words of Jesus are “sown”. Jesus reminds us that bigger is not necessarily better. Jesus tells the story of how the “tiniest” seed makes a huge impact in the kingdom of God. It reminds me that when God gets through in our lives, he can make our lives extremely significant and meaningful, even if that means we never make one headline.

What will be “big news” in the days to come is if God gets through in my life and your life. When God gets through, he will use us in some way to advance the kingdom. That will be a big deal.
