Mark 3:20-35

When I entered the ministry I was unprepared for something.

What? Very simply, I was unprepared for the anger I would incur in others by following what I saw as the Gospel. For trying to act as a member of Jesus’ family, doing his will.

It’s true for any one of us. If we truly step out for God, someone—quite probably a fellow believer—is going to be unhappy with us.

’m softhearted - I hate this part of my job. But if you look at the gospel, you’ll see that all those who “step out” for God are in good company. They are in the company of Christ.

Those Jesus angered went so far as to claim that he was possessed. (No one’s done that to me—yet!) But Jesus uses simple logic: if Satan is casting out Satan, then Satan will fall. Translation: if what you are saying is true, then what you want to happen (Satan’s defeat) is still going to happen!

But there’s a warning as well. Don’t blaspheme against the Holy Spirit—the Spirit of God/Christ. That’s a sin you’ll always carry with you.

This warning still applies, I think, to us. I’m not perfect. I, too, can get angry with fellow believers. We need to be careful—in criticizing one another we might be criticizing the work and Spirit of God!

So…let us be gentle with one another. And praise God by seeking to serve God AND by supporting the work of one another.
