Calm

Frontline Devotion for Friday, February 16, 2007 by Dave Sonnenberg

In the book, Focus Like a Laser Beam, Darrin Zeer is quoted as saying,

"I worry that people have a negative connotation of the word relax. Calm might be a better word. It is a powerful word. When I am calm, I tap into a power beyond my own. Be calm and the intelligence will come. When you are not calm, it is like temporary insanity. Suppressing your thoughts and pretending to be calm is not calm. When you achieve calm, magic happens."

There is something profoundly simple and important in that quote. Can you and I be calm for the sake of others? I picture Jesus demonstrating "calm" behavior throughout his life- during the chaotic storm on the sea when the disciples were panicking, when being questioned by Pilate, when there wasn't enough food to go around, when people were ill, etc. etc. etc.

As we learn to be "calm", we can bless those around us in profound ways.

Lord Jesus, there is much in this life that can make us anxious. Help us to be "calm" so that we might offer the world a real gift. amen
