Frontline Devotion for Thursday, January 25, 2007 by Dave Sonnenberg

I read a wonderful newspaper article a few years back. It was about a church that gave out beepers to people who were hospitalized or facing serious illness. In giving the beeper, they told the people to set it on “vibrate”. The church then gave the number to people on their prayer list and said, “when you say a prayer for this person” - call their beeper number.

So, as you guess - throughout the day, the person facing illness would have this beeper go off. It was a tangible reminder that others were praying and continually thinking of them. The testimony from the recipients of prayers was that they felt so much peace and often experienced great strength. God was very real to them.

One of our beloved Frontline Devotion team members was in for major surgery yesterday and is now recovering. He doesn’t have a beeper with him, yet I can testify that yesterday alone, I had 36 emails asking about him and saying how they were keeping him in prayer. Countless others are doing the same! You can guess that when I see him later today, I will convey that reality to him. And as always, he will express the deepest appreciation for the gift of Christian community and for all those who have “held him in the palm of God’s hand”.
