“The Answer Man”

Frontline Lenten Devotion for Tuesday, March 30, 2004, by Catherine Singelsether

Text for the day:  John 16:24

Have you ever wondered what God would say to you if you were face to face? I have. But one thing I can guarantee Him to say is “Yes.” I know that may sound a bit corny, but is it? Doesn’t he whisper “Yes” into our subconscious mind whenever we want to give up or the devil through a situation is telling us things are at their very worst, God will say “Yes” to whatever it is you want “Yes” to. So while God may not speak in tangible language all the time to us, he whispers to us all the time. In our hearts and thoughts and such. God would say like in the song I think – “Anything you want, you got it. Anything at all, you got it – baby.”

God through his son says “You’re my only child. There’s no one else like you. If God loved us enough to die for us, surely he means that we are worth everything else. This is the love that we celebrate this Lenten season and sets us free. The same love that gives us hope. Jesus was always encouraging his disciples, especially when they needed it. In the dark hour, when death was imminent, His answer was to look to God’s love for the answer, telling us that He would always be with us.

A lot of the time I find myself struggling. There are forces outside of me and within me that pull me away from His perfect will. My heart doubts, my mind fears, and I feel lost. But, when I try and let it go and believe in that assurance that covers all fears, I’m ok. If I know that whenever something beyond me whispers “No”, I know that God’s truth is always saying “Yes” and I am allowed to live with perfect freedom.

What is God’s “Yes” for you in your life? What are the yes’s he has stored up, things he wants to show you?  For me, it is coming to believe and responding to that love. That is how love works, and that is our purpose. Without God’s love, we cannot be whole. Once you embrace it, it can begin to do things in your life.

Prayer:  Precious Lord, thank you for all the things we fail to see and for all the things that are soon to be. Please awaken the minds of our hearts to your Almighty love so that we can better love you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
