The Light's On Mama

A daily
Spiritual
Growth Opportunity

Frontline Devotion for Tuesday, January 7, 2004, by Pastor Dave Sonnenberg

We got a video camera for Christmas and just began testing it out yesterday.  My wife took several short videos yesterday while I was at work, so I got the chance to see them when I got home. One thing that was obvious to me- they love being in front of the camera.  They love hamming it up for the camera - singing, talking, and performing.

All of them had been prepped before the camera went on.  They had been told that whenever you see the red light, the camera is running and it is taking pictures.  My three year old was the funniest because he continually talked into the camera with the simple statement.   “The lights on.  The lights on mama.”  A few minutes later, he’d notice it again.  Thus, he’d feel compelled to announce - “the light’s on.”

The only video in which he did not mention the light was when he was sleeping.

One of the things I try and remind myself of is that faith can’t be turned off.  I try to remember that “the light is always on”.  Being a disciple of Jesus is a 24 hour job.  We need to remember that we are called to live by Jesus’ values and Jesus’ ways in church and away from church and everywhere in between.  That is not an easy task, but I find it much easier when we remember “the light of Christ is always on” - seeking to lead and guide me.

May you recognize the light of Christ is always on.  May your faith be always on.  May you daily serve God and others.
