Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Today's Frontline Devotion Monday, January 5, 2004 Friendships Rekindled |
A daily |
Frontline Devotion for Monday, January 5, 2004, by Pastor Dave Sonnenberg
It is a good day. The kids go back to school today. After two weeks of holiday
festivities, the pattern of school returns.
One of the great joys today was to hear my children say - “I can’t wait to see my
friends.” They want to tell them about their Christmas presents and all the
places they went. They want to hear about their friends holidays and see what
new clothes people are wearing. But, most important - they want to be with
their friends. They want to reconnect with them after being apart for a period
of two weeks.
One of the greatest parts of Christianity is the fellowship of believers. The
community of faith is called to be a community that is sent out into the world
and then regularly re-connects with each other. The presence of fellow
believers in our lives offers us strength, companionship, new insights, partners
in prayer, attentive eyes and ears, etc.
I’d like you to take some time today and thank God for Christian friends who
give you energy and hope and encourage you on your journey of faith. Who are
these people? What makes your connection to them so meaningful? Thank God for
them.
Lord God, we thank you for those who befriend our children and bless their
lives. This day we also pause and give thanks for friends in the faith- people
who encourage us to live as your followers in this world. May your Spirit bless
our fellowship. May your Spirit enable us to extend our love to others. May
we go into the world on an ongoing basis and continually seek to reconnect with
the people around us in ways that you would have us. Amen
