Rejoice - Let it Prevail

A daily
Spiritual
Growth Opportunity

Frontline Devotion for Saturday, January 3, 2004, by Pastor Dave Sonnenberg

"Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say rejoice."
"This is the day that the Lord has made.  Let us rejoice and be glad in it."

There are a lot of things we have to do in life.  There are a whole list of imperatives or "musts" we must fulfill.  As I head back to work today after being off since Christmas, I am excited and filled with a little anxiety.  In my head I am thinking of the countless things I must do. (many of them rather quickly!)  I am thinking of about 10 people I must contact in the next 48 hours.  I am thinking that it is take a lot to catch up.  Have you been there before?

Anyway, when I find myself in situations like this, I find it interesting that the verses printed above come into my head.  It is nothing too complex.  Rather, both verses remind me that life is good and it is time to pause and rejoice.  It's a time to pause more than once and rejoice - it's a reminder that wherever I go I need to show others that I'm rejoicing.

It's too easy to feel anxious and busy.  It is even easier to cast your long list of duties onto others.  Still, I hear the call this day to remember to do the hard work of rejoicing.  Rejoice that you belong to God.  Rejoice that he is with you.  Rejoice that he wants to connect you to others.  Rejoice that his Spirit seeks to lead you.  Rejoice that he will help you through your long lists and musts.

Celebrate Christ's presence.  Rejoice.
