Frontline Devotion for Thursday, August 21, 2003 by Pastor Dave Sonnenberg
I give thanks to God for Jesus’ expanded definition of family. Without a doubt, my spiritual and emotional life has been profoundly shaped by my family of origin - by my parents, sisters, and grandparents. As an adult, I became part of a 2nd family as I married my wife and was brought into the Foltz clan.
But, as Jesus says today, family goes beyond just biology or marital relationships. Christian family or Christian bonds are formed wherever God’s will is done. Whenever we see someone serving God in daily life, we just may have discovered a new brother or sister in the faith.
Keep your eyes open. Look for your brothers and sisters. Reach out and get to know them so that you may experience the joy of their companionship.
Lord God, we give you thanks for the gift of Christian community. Let us be faithful brothers or sisters in the faith for others so they may experience your goodness. Amen
