Confirmation - For the Parents
The
Confirmation process actually began at your child’s Baptism. As your child was
sealed forever with the Cross of Christ, you promised to raise him or her in the
Christian faith. Now it is your child’s turn to learn, grow, and confirm that
promise!
This is a time when your child will be asking tough questions about his or her faith. Many of these questions may be directed to you! Confirmation is more than instruction and exploration on Sunday mornings. As a parent, you have a wonderful opportunity to open a dialog with your child about faith, the Church, and life itself. You have a chance to grow and deepen your relationship with your child and with God. Take advantage of this time!
1. Attend church as a family - Spending time each
week in a worship
setting
draws the members of your family closer to each other. It allows the Good
Shepherd community to give you encouragement and support.
2. Ask questions - Ask your child what she or he is studying in Confirmation class. Share your faith experiences. You will learn from your child as well.
3. Practice what you preach! - Your child is progressing from Baptism to Confirmation. She or he needs your help and active involvement to participate in this powerful experience. As you drive him or her to classes and worship every Sunday, you are showing that church is important. God has blessed your child with a wonderful role model – you!

Sunday, August 26, 2007 at 12:30pm: Confirmation Orientation/Acolyte Training
Weekly Confirmation Classes: Sundays, September 9,
2007 through May 18, 2008, from 9:45-11:00am in Room D
(No classes on December 30, 2007 and March 23, 2008 due to holidays)
Super Saturdays: 12:00 noon - 3:00pm
On these dates, we will eat together, receive instructions, worship and
participate in a witness project (such as distributing fliers to the
neighborhood).

Super Sundays: 9:45am - 4:00pm
On these dates, we will
worship together, eat together, and participate in special projects together.
December 2, 2007 - Make care packages for
troops serving abroad
February 10, 2008 - Church event for kids;
parents go out together

Senior Citizens
Fall Retreat for 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Students:
Friday, September 21, 2007 through Sunday, September 23,
2007 at Camp Kirchenwald (Pennsylvania)
Youth Encounter - Baltimore Quake I for 6th, 7th, &
8th Grade:
Friday, January 4, 2008 through Sunday, January 6, 2008
Optional activity, but you won't want to miss it! Great
music, and great speakers!
Shekinah Metro D.C. Gathering for 7th & 8th Graders:
Friday, March 7, 2008 through Sunday, March 9, 2008 at 4H Center in Front Royal,
VA
Youth from D.C. area Lutheran churches are invited to
this gathering. This is also an optional activity that you won't want to miss!
Spring Retreat for 8th Grade to Luther Place in D.C.:
Sunday, April 6, 2008 through Monday, April 7, 2008

Confirmation Rehearsal & Banquet: Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 10:00 am
Confirmation Service: Sunday, June 1, 2008 (tentatively planned for the early service)
