A Web Tour of our Stained Glass Windows

The Luther Window

This window symbolizes the Church, particularly the Lutheran Church.  A dove represents the Holy Spirit ascending at Pentecost, a day often referred to as the birthday of the Church.  A "mighty fortress" on a rock pounded by waves symbolizes the greater Church.  Martin Luther's hands nail the Ninety-five Theses to the church door at Wittenberg, Germany in 1517.  Luther's seal is a cross, centered on a heart, encircled by the petals of a rose.  The hand sign is "church."
