Good Shepherd Lutheran Church
A Web Tour of our Stained Glass Windows
|
Dedication These web pages provide a description of the stained glass windows as an inspiration to Good Shepherd visitors and members, in thanksgiving to the faithful whose contributions built our present church, in celebration of our 40th anniversary in 2005, and to the glory of God. May all who visit here walk in His light. The Chancel Window: The Good Shepherd As we enter the sanctuary our attention is drawn to the chancel window: a towering, radiant image of Christ, the Good Shepherd. He carries a lamb calmly at rest across his shoulders. He holds a shepherd’s crook firmly at his side, conveying a presence of authority, strength, and stability. In the foreground Christ reaches into a ravine to rescue a lamb. This small scene within a scene, or predella, expresses the Parable of the Lost Sheep: “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the other ninety-nine on the mountain and go in search of the one that strayed? And when he has found it he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.” (Matthew 18:12; Luke 15:3) Seven windows on the east side of the nave illustrate themes of special significance in the life and faith of the Good Shepherd congregation. Each of the seven windows has a theme: Praise, Charity, Holy Spirit, Life of Jesus, Lutheran Church, Faith, and Stewardship. Click each theme to "walk" to the window and view it up close. Comments about the Windows "I think they are all very, very beautiful. They were a very loving gift from many people. I love looking at the windows every Sunday. I think they are beautiful. We are very blessed to have them." --Elaine Workinger, Charter Member "The main window represents the church. All of the windows are a work of art. They are such an asset to the church in themselves." --Frank Walkuski "I like the contrast because it makes the colors pop out. I'm glad they put it up." --Adam C. "I like the window(s) because it has Jesus on it. It's beautiful." --Kira L. "The number of steps to achieve the final product was very complex and difficult. We didn't pay enough for them, even at the time. The main window was installed in sections...The main window is priceless." --Al Zanner, Charter Member "They are very inspiring and quite beautiful." --Barbara Zanner
